There are lots of products designed to help you maintain your hairline, prevent hair loss and also to re-grow hair. This section covers only products that are available only in lotion or shampoo form; some of the companies that make hair loss products in tablet forms do also sell products in non-pill form.

So, why select one of these products? First, Rogaine is an extremely popular choice and is one of the few treatment options scientifically proven to re-grow hair. Furthermore, Rogaine is available without a prescription (as are the other products below), which can be an advantage. Many men decide to use one of these products along with a pill to try and get the benefit of both (which can be smart but, as always, we recommend you speak with your doctor before starting any of these treatments). Finally, some of the lotions or creams can be less expensive then oral medications and, if all you want is something to make your hair appear thicker, some of these options will work – and fast!

Rogaine – Rogaine, which is manufactured by Pfizer, contains minoxidil, which (unlike Propecia and Finasteride), can be used safely by both men and women. It is targeted specifically at men with hereditary hair loss; one study they cite on the Rogaine web site showed that 85% of men re-grew hair in 16 weeks of use. The product is designed to “revitalize” shrunken hair follicles and increase their size gradually – leading to a longer growth phase and allowing normal hair to grow. A one month supply of original Rogaine starts at $24.95.

Avacor – Avacor offers four products – a scalp detoxifying shampoo, “all natural nutricap,” “Physicians Topical Formulation,” and “Boost!” hair thickening serum. The shampoos, conditioners and gels are designed to help hair look fuller and healthier, while the topical formula does contain minoxidil and is designed to help re-grow hair. Avacor starts in 3-month packages of it’s minoxidil product, for $239.95; the shampoos and thickening serums range from $8.00 to $19.95 for a bottle.

Extreme Hair Therapy – offered by Hair Club for Men (which also offers hair transplants), Extreme Hair Therapy is targeted at men in relatively early stages of hair loss (I or II on the Hamilton-Norwood scale). The program includes to cleansers for hair and scalp, a conditioner, a vitamin supplement and, finally, Minoxidil to apply twice per day.

Hair Genesis – Hair Genesis products are designed to first clean the scalp and hair follicles of “sebum oils and other substances” and then to block DHT and inhibit DHT production by your body. Their site claims that Hair Genesis matches up favorably with Propecia and Rogaine – you’ll receive a topical serum to use on your scalp, shampoo and conditioner, and soft gel vitamins to block DHT formation. Each product individually starts around $25 except for the conditioner, while a one month pack costs $75.95 plus $5.95 shipping.

Hair Formula 37 – Hair Formula 37 is a bit different than other products on this site, as it specifically is not designed to grow new hair – instead, their vitamins, shampoos and conditioners are designed to help your current hair become healthier and grow faster. A one-month package starts at $69.99, just the vitamins are $49.99.

Tricomin – The Tricomin product line consists of shampoos, conditioners and a follicle therapy spray. The main ingredient designed to help your hair grow is copper – the Tricomin site says that copper simulates cells that produce Collagen and other proteins your follicles need during growth phase. Prices range from $21 for just the shampoo to $88.00 for a complete pack.

Revivogen – Revivogen is a “dermatologist-formulated all-natural solution to help slow thinning hair in men and women.” The product sets about doing this by block DHT, as we’ve seen with man other products highlighted on our site. The company’s product line includes a scalp lotion, shampoo and conditioner, with prices ranging from a $20 shampoo to $89 for a 3-month supply of the scalp therapy (no shampoo or conditioner).

Folligen – Folligen’s product line includes sprays, oils, creams and lotions which feature copper as the active ingredient. The main product is a hair and scalp cream which is applied before bed; the Folligen site also recommends adding Emu oil and either a 2% or 5% minoxidil solution (which they include in a pack) to improve results. The lotion costs $21; a 2 ounce package with minoxidil costs $32.95.

Crinagen – Crinagen is offered as a spray or lotion that is supposed to block DHT formation via a combination of ingredients, including zinc and saw palmetto. The product is just a simply spray (no shampoos or anything else); costs $19.49 for one month and $52.00 for a three month supply.
